Making involvement happen - an introduction to user involvement

A half-day workshop for healthcare professionals and commissioners in diabetes

Do you want to understand the experiences and views of people who use your services? Have you tried and met obstacles? Do you struggle to get more than the usual people to sign up? This half-day workshop is an introduction to the practical approaches that will help you engage the right people in ways that are proven to work.

It will cover a range of practical steps from setting the purpose of engagement, to recruiting the right people, to getting the most out of involvement activity. It will also look at some of the common problems that people face and offer ways of overcoming them.

Learning objectives

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Identify good objectives for involvement, when you should involve people and what type of involvement is right for your circumstances
  • Identify the key steps in planning for effective involvement
  • Develop a recruitment plan to ensure you engage the right people
  • Describe some key challenges to successful involvement, including dealing with challenging people

You will also be given a range of practical resources and templates to help you plan for effective involvement in your organisation.

The workshops are free for all NHS staff in England.
