Delivering involvement: engagement events

Running the day

If you have experience of group facilitation, or can get someone experienced involved to facilitate the event, that will be ideal. If not, don’t worry – visit the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvements' online resources to help you facilitate effectively.

You can use a range of methods to get people to participate and discussion working well. There are a number of online resources that offer useful advice on methods of facilitation. A good example can be found on the website, people and participation.net.

When running the day, it is important to allow participants time to feel comfortable working together as a group and give them opportunities to voice their general views on their diabetes and the care they receive before focusing on specific issues. Read an Example local engagement event programme (PDF) 45KB.
