The National Audit of Schizophrenia is part of the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme led by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Centre for Quality Improvement, and funded by Health Quality Improvement Partnership. The audit examines the treatment of people with schizophrenia living in the community based on standards derived from NICE schizophrenia guidelines (NICE CG 82 2009).
In preparation for publication of its findings (due Dec 2012) the NAS has supported the development of the Positive Cardiometabolic Health (CMH). The CMH resource provides clinicians a simple framework for preventing the establishment of CVD and type 2 diabetes risk in patients with psychosis receiving antipsychotic medication, supporting collaborative practice across professional disciplines and service settings.
The resource was developed from a clinical algorithm first created by Australian colleagues (Curtis, 2012). This UK adaptation represents a collaboration by the Royal Colleges of Psychiatrists, of General Practitioners, of Nursing, and of Physicians, Rethink Mental Illness and Diabetes UK.
