Why Weight? September 2005

Summary: This project was aimed at those most at risk of ill health due to obesity. Motivational interviewing was used to enable people to look forward and resolve any ambivelance they might have about change. People referred to the programme undergo a 45 minute session explaining motivation, knowledge base, skills, eating and exercise patterns. If people are assessed as suitable they are then offered weekly one-hour sessions including workshops and activities. Of 915 people reviewed after 12 weeks: 76 per cent had lost weight.
