Definition of the Fulbright Diabetes UK Research Award
Diabetes UK and the Fulbright Commission are pleased to announce, each year, one award to be offered to a UK citizen in support of research at any accredited US institution into the clinical or biomedical aspects of diabetes or the social or economic issues faced by people with diabetes.
The award is for a period of 12 months beginning at any point between 1 August 2013 and 30 April 2014.
Financial support
The award is for the US dollar equivalent of £75,000 (converted using the prevailing rate), paid in instalments directly to the grantee, the first of which is typically given just prior to departure from the UK. This funding is intended as a contribution towards any institutional fees, travel to/from the US, and general maintenance costs whilst in the US. Limited sickness and accident benefit coverage, visa sponsorship and processing and participation in a number of Fulbright Scholar events are also included. Once in the US, candidates may also apply for an additional travel grant to accept guest lecturing invitations at other US institutions.

- hold or expect to receive a PhD in a relevant area before departure to the US.
Preference will be given to those who do not have extensive, recent experience of working or studying in the US.
