Current grant holders

Congratulations on being awarded a Diabetes UK grant. Once you have signed and returned your agreement form to us and confirmed your start date we require you to describe your research for us in lay terms in our lay form (Word, 115KB). This is so that we can communicate the research we fund to the people who support us and make your grant possible.

Confirming your start date will automatically set up your payments, with payments being sent to your nominated finance officer. Please note that all payments are currently made quarterly in arrears. Any increments incurred on the grant due to nationally agreed pay awards should be invoiced to the research department at the end of each year of the grant by your finance department.

One year on, depending on the length of your grant, you will be required to submit an Annual Report (with original signatures of all grant holders) within two weeks of the anniversary of your grant. Failure to do so will result in suspension of further payments.

If your grant is running for 12 months or less, or you have reached the end of your grant we require a signed  Final Report within six weeks of the end of the grant. The final quarterly payment is automatically withheld until receipt of the final report.

Diabetes UK supporters are able to ‘adopt’ our research projects. If your project has been adopted we may contact you on behalf of the group to give a talk about the research they are directly supporting. Please note that any funds given by these groups go towards your awarded total and are not top-ups to your grant. Groups are not allowed to donate directly to researchers.

Throughout the grant we may also ask you to provide us with further information in addition to annual and final reports for our tri-annual publication Research matters. This publication is a very important part of communicating with our supporters and we appreciate your cooperation.

It is very important to raise the profile of diabetes research across the board. If you have a journal article going to print, win an award, are written up in local or national press, interviewed for news programmes or have found some exciting results please do not wait for your annual report to let us know. Contact the Research department and we’ll not only let our supporters know but our PR and Media team can help raise the profile of your research. Please download our guidelines on public relations (Word, 75KB).

Also if you have any problems regarding your grant, are changing institutions or want put your grant on hold due to unforeseen circumstances, please let us know as soon as possible.
