A randomised controlled trial of the benefits of exercise early in the management of Type 2 diabetes – “Early ACTID”
This project will study 750 people with newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes. 110 of these people will receive "normal care", with the remaining 640 receiving monthly dietary advice. Half of the 640 individuals will also receive exercise training for 1 year which is simple and easy to perform. At the end of the study we will be able to see whether exercise improves glucose control, blood pressure and cholesterol levels over and above that found with regular dietary advice or normal care.
