Preventable factors in childhood that lead to insulin resistance, Type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome: The Earlybird Study Phase II (Early Puberty)
Earlybird is focused on the “fuse” that detonates Type 2 diabetes- what lights it, what keeps it burning and importantly, how best to extinguish it before diabetes develops. This study will take six-monthly “snapshots” of 300 children to involve measures of body weight, fat and shape and annual blood tests.

Role of resistant starch in the treatment of insulin resistance
Resistant starch is a functional food which supposedly provides additional health benefits beyond basic nutrition. The researchers want to see if consuming resistant starch could be used in the treatment of insulin resistance as previous work in healthy volunteers showed beneficial effects on the way insulin works within the body.
