Adopt a Project – diabetes research

What is Adopt a Project?

Diabetes UK could not fund diabetes research without the generous support of our members, donors and voluntary groups, and we do our best to make supporting research a rewarding experience. Our Adopt a Project scheme allows you to ‘adopt’ a Diabetes UK research project of your choice in order to become more involved with diabetes research and get closer to the researchers we support, while providing urgently needed support.

How long does an adoption last and how much can I give?

All of the projects available for adoption have been approved by the Diabetes UK Research Committee of scientific experts. Individuals and groups can adopt a research project for a period of one year, by donating a minimum of £1,000.

We would like everyone to get involved in Adopt a Project. Individuals, voluntary groups, clubs, associations and educational establishments can all take part. In fact, anyone can. If you cannot make a £1,000 donation, we can help you to join up with others to support your fundraising. Alternatively, you can still help to support the work of Diabetes UK with a smaller donation – we are always very grateful for donations of any size.

What do I receive in return?

In return for your generous support, you will receive an update on the progress of your project. For gifts of £5,000 or more, you can also request a talk from a researcher on your project or from a member of the Diabetes UK research team. For gifts of £10,000 or more, you can visit a laboratory where Diabetes UK-funded research is taking place. Finally, to show our appreciation for your continued support, you will find a special ‘thank you’ listed beneath your project.

How do I adopt a project?

If you would like to adopt one of the projects listed in our online directory, please contact the Diabetes UK office in your local area.

If you have already identified the project you wish to adopt, please send the project details and your cheque (made payable to Diabetes UK) to your local Diabetes UK office and they will do the rest.
