Retinopathy campaign

Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in the UK working age population.
We know that people with diabetes have experienced difficulties accessing their free annual retinal screening test by digital camera from the NHS. You can read about some people’s experiences in this section under Your Stories.
Diabetes UK is launching a retinopathy campaign, Your Vision. The aim of the campaign is to:
- increase awareness of diabetic retinopathy
- inform people with diabetes about how to reduce the risk of retinopathy
- empower people with diabetes to ensure they get their free annual digital retinopathy test with a digital camera
- campaign to ensure all PCTs are offering Diabetic Retinopathy screening and have a systematic call and recall system to recall people with diabetes on an annual basis inviting them for a test.
The campaign is across the country but is also targeting four pilot areas - Bath and North East Somerset, Hampshire, Kingston, East Lancashire - to help raise awareness of the issues in these areas, in particular.
Whether you are living in one of these areas, or somewhere else in the UK, please help us to campaign for change and make sure everyone with diabetes gets screened.
If you are a healthcare professional or a person living with diabetes, you can also download additional materials to find out more about diabetic retinopathy – please feel free to distribute these widely.
