Pregnancy was pretty scary without the added complication of diabetes

Becky ran a half marathon to raise awareness of diabetes.

I wanted to raise money for the Fred Holland Centre at Kidderminster hospital because pregnancy alone is quite an emotional and scary process without the complications of gestational diabetes.

The nurses that were there for me were amazing! Having the support and guidance - whether at the clinic or over the phone - was very welcomed, especially during my second pregnancy when I had to self inject insulin.

I simply could not thank them enough and as a result I was able to cope with the diabetes and the end result of having given birth safely to my beautiful daughters.

Running is not a natural thing for me to have set the challenge was very brave! My training went well and as a result of working hard I managed to complete the run in two hours 22 mins!

I had originally set my time as 2.45-3hrs so I was delighted with my time, but the feeling when I hit that finish line and saw my parents, husband and my two daughters (Maisie age five, and Dulcie 22 months) was just so overwhelming.

Having lost nine stone last year and turning my life around running the half marathon was just the icing on the cake.

With the support of my family, friends and others I have managed to raise £1,100 for the centre. I am meeting the nurses and Fred Holland this Wednesday to hand over a cheque.

To see them to thank them again for all they do for our local area is the biggest honour. Whilst raising my sponsors and talking to people it was surprising to hear how many said to me oh my mum - dad- brother -sister- friend - nan - baby sister - grandad have diabetes!
