MP Foot Clinic Visit

MPs visit a diabetes foot clinic to help campaign

Tuesday 12 April 2016

Diabetes UK invited MPs to a diabetes foot clinic in April, as part of the Putting Feet First campaign, which is calling for an end to the thousands of potentially preventable amputations affecting people with diabetes.

Paula Sheriff, MP for Dewsbury and member of the Health Select Committee, and Liz McInnes, MP for Heywood and Middleton, and member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Diabetes, visited King’s College Hospital Diabetic Foot Clinic in London, with the charity.

The visit gave the MPs – who are from constituencies where diabetes prevalence is higher than the national average – an opportunity to learn about how good footcare can prevent amputations.

There is a huge variation in the footcare people are receiving in the UK and more needs to be done to make sure everyone has their annual foot check and can access a multidisciplinary footcare team. The MPs will now be championing better diabetes care through their work in Parliament in order to prevent unnecessary amputations.
