Diabetes training and awareness courses for the workplace

Diabetes UK has been working for people with diabetes, their friends, family and carers since 1934.

Facing diabetes today

Today there are about 3.3 million people in the UK who have been diagnosed with diabetes, and a further 590,000 who do not even know they have the condition. Three people die from diabetes-related complications every hour and 100 toe, foot and lower limb amputations a week are caused by diabetes. It is also the leading cause of blindness in people of working age in the UK. The numbers reflect how serious this is, with approximately 10 per cent of the NHS budget being currently spent on diabetes.

So, as you can see, it is more important than ever that we do something to address this. Many of us work with people with diabetes, or are at risk of developing diabetes ourselves. It’s time to get better informed. Diabetes UK, the leading charity for people with diabetes, has developed courses and awareness days to support you. Through these events we can provide employees with a sound overview of diabetes to ensure that people with diabetes receive the right support. In addition, our diabetes awareness events will help to prevent people from developing the condition in the future.

Who are these courses for?

Whatever your workplace needs are, we can cater for them. Perhaps you work for a Primary Care Trust and your healthcare professionals would like a more detailed knowledge of diabetes to help them to treat their patients.

You might work for an organisation that needs to support people with diabetes, and your employees would benefit from an introduction to the condition. Or maybe you just care about the health of your employees and want to raise awareness and help prevent them developing diabetes in the future.

Our wealth of experience

Diabetes UK has been working for people with diabetes, their friends, family and carers since 1934. We take pride in sharing our wealth of experience with others. Our courses are excellent value for money, and in return you will receive the most up-to-date knowledge and information from the UK’s leading diabetes charity.

Our trainers have vast experience and the latest medical knowledge, providing participants with practical skills as well as theory. We can often be flexible with the arrangements, and tailor courses or awareness days to suit your needs. This section of the website will give you a small taste of what we have to offer. Do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to find out more.

Information was easy to understand and questions were answered well. It dispelled a lot of the myths surrounding Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
