Rumit, Event Volunteer

Event Volunteer - London Region

“Hi, my name is Rumit and I’m an Event Volunteer for Diabetes UK.  In this role, I’ve volunteered for a variety of events including running several awareness stands, helping at fundraising events like the Big Collection, volunteering at conferences, and supporting campaign events such asAmp Shoes- which raised awareness of diabetes-related amputations. In the past I’ve run to raise money for Diabetes UK, so this year I volunteered as a cheerer at the London Marathon!

By running awareness stands and helping out at events, I am able to share information about diabetes with those who really need support. It brings awareness to the public about how to look after themselves and where to get help. Sometimes people are not aware of where they can find the help they need – we point them in the right direction.  Volunteering at fundraising events also supports fundraisers and Diabetes UK to raise the funds that go to research and supporting people with diabetes and their families.

I like volunteering at events for Diabetes UK because it brings more awareness for myself as I am living with diabetes. When I attend any of the training courses with Diabetes UK I learn new things and meet like-minded volunteers. The training helps stretch us so we get the best outcomes. I have also benefited from volunteering personally, as I’ve made new friends.  When I am volunteering, I’m very pleased when I can be of help to the general public.  I volunteer to support people and I want to do even more next year.”
