Diabetes Consultants kick-start 2018 for local group

Two leading Consultants in the Western Trust will be guest speakers at the upcoming Foyle Area Diabetes UK Support Group meeting, taking place on Thursday 8 February at 7.00pm at the Healthy Living Centre, Old Library Trust Creggan.

Dr Neil Black and Dr Athinyaa Thiraviaraj will be on hand to answer any questions on diabetes and provide information about this complex and, at times, overwhelming, lifelong condition.

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland Volunteer Development Manager, Heather Causer, said, ‘We are delighted to welcome Dr Black and Dr Thiraviaraj to our opening Foyle meeting for 2018. They will provide information and advice to help people understand and manage their diabetes better.

‘Managing diabetes, making changes and fitting the demands of the condition into people’s lifestyle can be challenging at times. Hearing from experienced healthcare professionals and having the chance to talk about diabetes-related issues can be very helpful.’

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland support groups are informal and open to new members. Last year the Foyle Area Support Group won the Diabetes UK Inspire Award for Reaching Out and Connecting.

The meeting takes place on Thursday 8 February at 7.00pm at the Healthy Living Centre, Old Library Trust Creggan. If you would like more information, please contact the Diabetes UK Northern Ireland office on 028 9066 6646 or email NIvolunteering@diabetes.org.uk.
