A grandmother of two, Gill has volunteered on the charity’s Care in School Helpline which offers support to parents to ensure their children are happy and healthy while at school, since it launched in 2014 and has provided admin support to various aspects of the helpline initiative since it began.
Gill said: “I love supporting the Care in School Helpline and it’s a pleasure to see that the work I do has such a positive impact on families and children living with diabetes. It’s amazing to be of such a worthwhile cause.”
Diabetes UK’s Care in School Helpline is supported by specially selected and trained volunteers who provide information for parents of children with Type 1 diabetes, about their child’s rights and support them to improve their child’s school experience.
Gill was presented with the award in National Volunteers Week, the annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK, on 6 June.
Gill’s work in supporting the helpline has enabled it to help over 500 parents of children with Type 1 diabetes resolve issues they're having at their child’s school in under three years.
