A Warrington paediatric diabetes team is pedalling the equivalent of Lymm to John O’Groats (500 miles) to raise vital funds for Diabetes UK.

The team-of-five from Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, includes diabetes specialist nurses, Lucy Unsworth and Claire Brookes, as well as dietitian Emma Armstrong and consultants Dr Anil Gopalakrishna and Dr Satish Hulikere.

Jenna Smith, 36, and 12 friends have already raised over £2,000 as they walk the distance to Benidorm and back throughout March, to increase awareness of type 1 diabetes in memory

A grandmother who has gone above and beyond to raise awareness of diabetes across the Bolton area has been honoured by Diabetes UK. 

IIa Shah, 77, of Great Lever, has been a highly-valued volunteer for us since her husband Nanubhai passed away in 2012. Mr Shah had lived with type 2 diabetes for more than 20 years.

British GT4 Championship racer Ben Wallace from Southport, is raising awareness of diabetes and has donated £500 to leading charity Diabetes UK to support people affected by the condition.

The money was partly raised at this year’s Ormskirk Motorfest and Ben hopes he can help other people living with diabetes through his support of Diabetes UK.

The Stockport Tadpoles Diabetes Group marked their 25th anniversary in October, celebrating 25 years of supporting families and young people affected by Type 1 diabetes.

The group, who meet once a month at the Edgeley Play Centre, were formed in 1994 to support families with children who have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

The group, part of Diabetes UK, had only just formed when Deborah Spires, her husband Paul and their son Ashley joined shortly after Ashley had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 2.
