Diabetes Scotland has hosted the first in a series of events designed to invite collaboration and innovation around type 2 diabetes prevention.  

The event took place in Inverclyde and linked experts and influencers from the local community with health system leaders and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health practitioners.

Christine Ritchie, a local resident from the Highlands, Scotland who lives with type 2 diabetes, recently completed our Swim22 challenge, raising an impressive £728 in the process.

The challenge, which involved swimming the equivalent of crossing the English Channel to France and back, aims to raise awareness and funds for diabetes research and support services.

An innovative new care hub has opened in Falkirk to support and connect people living with diabetes across Forth Valley.

NHS Forth Valley has opened a new Diabetes Care Hub at Falkirk Community Hospital which has been designed to provide a bright, airy space for people living with diabetes to come together to learn how to manage their condition, away from an acute hospital setting.

Diabetes Scotland has appointed John Kinnear as the charity’s new National Director.

As part of Diabetes UK, Diabetes Scotland supports people living with the condition, campaigns for improved care, and raises money to fund vital research.

John, who moves into the role from a strategic position within Diabetes UK, took up the position on 17 July 2023, replacing Angela Mitchell who is now Head of Scotland at Nesta.
