Diabetes UK Cymru has launched a scheme in Carmarthenshire, Southwest Wales to address a need for support for people living with diabetes whose isolation worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the success of the Befriending Circle set up in Cumbria by the Diabetes UK North West Team in 2019, a similar scheme is now  being piloted in Wales, where a third of the population lives in rural areas. Some lack public transport and digital connectivity.

We are offering free boxes of craft materials alongside fun and inspiring ideas to children living with type 1 diabetes in Wales. All you need to do is fill in this form to sign up.

Benjamin Jelley, a consultant at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has run more than 20 miles and raised over £300 for Diabetes UK Cymru this Winter.

A school in Neath, Port Talbot has won an award for providing great care to children and young people with type 1 diabetes.

Melin Primary School was awarded the Diabetes UK ‘Good Diabetes Care in School Award 2020’. It was chosen because of the support it provides to pupils with the condition, the help it offers to manage their diabetes safely, and the care it takes to include them in all school activities.
