The Community of Arundel came together to embrace the spirit of Christmas in a special music night in aid of Diabetes UK.

Claire and Simon Gray, friends of Lucy Ashworth whose own daughter Indigo developed Type 1 diabetes last year at the age of five years old, offered to host a musical event at their beautiful converted barn in Arundel.

Guests enjoyed a variety of music and tested their luck in a raffle in aid of Diabetes UK.

Laden with festive décor, the barn twinkled, filled with the aroma of mulled wine and an ancient large fireplace as the stage. Guests were treated to Christmas carols sung by the Arundel Cathedral Choristers (Indigo is one of them!), young singers – Three of Hearts, The Sirens, a guitar Duo, Opera and special guests Johnny Wigg on fiddle and Nigel Hardy on Double Bass.

The raffle was well supported by local businesses, Sainsbury’s Littlehampton, Pallant of Arundel, Sparks Yard and the Zimmer Stewart gallery.

Lucy Ashworth said, “I was so pleased that so many friends and contacts came together for such an enjoyable night.  It was such a shock when Indigo was diagnosed and it turned our family upside down. In some ways I grieve for her loss of freedom everyday, but by focusing on the positive events such as this brings new hope for a full and rewarding life for her.

We were fortunate to have Dr Ken Laji, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist from St Richards Hospital, Chichester, and my husband, Dr Caspian Ashworth, Regional Medical Adviser Takeda UK, to talk about the condition and new developments within the Diabetes field.

Diabetes is affecting so many generations in a community and through people’s generosity we raised  People are already asking when the next party is!”
