MHRA issue safety alert for Accu-Chek® Aviva test strips

Roche Diabetes Care have issued a safety warning that there are dosing issues with a specific lot of Accu-Chek® Aviva test strips.

Roche have recently identified that a specific lot of Accu-Chek® Aviva test strips have dosing issues, and therefore cannot be used as intended. The affected Lot No. is 498287 | Catalog No. 06453970020. 

If you use an affected product, you may find you can’t perform a valid blood glucose measurement on your meter with multiple strips in a given strip vial from this specific lot. The issue can be easily spotted by the error message displayed on the meter upon strip insertion or the strip not absorbing the blood drop. 

Actions to be taken by users of Accu-Chek® Aviva test strips

  • Please check if you have Accu-Chek® Aviva test strips from the impacted lot. You can find the lot number and catalog number on the top flap of the vial packaging as well as on the label of each test strip vial, as shown in the photo.

  • If you have any affected products at home, please dispose of the test strips immediately.

  • If you would like to obtain replacement test strips, please call our Roche Diabetes Care Customer Care line at 0800 701 000 (Accu-Chek® Aviva users) or 0800 7312291 (insulin pump users).

  • If you have any further questions about your blood glucose readings, talk to your diabetes care team. 

Roche Diabetes Care has thoroughly investigated this issue and implemented the appropriate corrective measures. They will provide replacement test strips to people with diabetes who have test strips from the affected lot at home.
