MHRA issues warning about Accu-chek monitors and antibiotic ceftriaxone

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has today advised people with diabetes that some blood glucose meters could give incorrect results if they are taking antibiotic ceftriaxone.

The affected meters, which are all made by Roche, are Accu-Chek Compact, Accu-Chek Mobile and Accu-Chek Active devices.

They may give falsely low blood glucose readings for people taking this antibiotic.

The MHRA says that people with diabetes should be advised by their healthcare team not to use these particular meters while they are taking ceftriaxone, and should be offered an alternative device for the duration of their treatment.
