It's less than a month until our annual Diabetes Week but there's still plenty of time to get involved.Diabetes has never been such a threat to people's health as it is today. Diabetes UK's work is needed more than ever, which is why we have increased our funding in diabetes research by £1m, to a total of £6m in 2006.To support this, we need your help to raise awareness and vital funds during Diabetes Week 2006.As always, we have a range of events lined up for Diabetes Week and across the whole summer. Why not take part in Walk in the Park - with 80 Walks UK-wide, there's bound to be one near you. It's a great way to combine gentle physical activity with raising funds and awareness.Other local events include balls, musical performances, and fundraising and awareness days. Or perhaps you're arranging your own Diabetes Week activity? If so, contact us and we will try to include it on the website.
If you're interested in campaigning, why not join the Diabetes Campaigners Network (DCN). During Diabetes Week, DCN members will be highlighting the importance of structured education for all people with diabetes.Remember to visit the website every day, for the latest news and information - as well as the launch of a new interactive guide to food shopping and meal planning.
