News of research claiming to diagnose diabetes by shining a light on a person’s arm has been received with caution by Diabetes UK.
A device called the Scout detects the early signs of Type 2 diabetes by spotting specific chemicals in the skin.
Dr Iain Frame, Research Manager at Diabetes UK said: "Non-invasive tests would be helpful. However, the accuracy and consistency of any diagnostic technique is extremely important. Far more research is needed before this technique could even be considered."
If you think you have diabetes, Diabetes UK recommends you go to your doctor for a blood test. You could also visit Lloydspharmacy for an in-pharmacy test.
