Medication name change

NovoNorm is soon to be called PRANDIN in the UK. Patients should not worry, as this is purely a change to the brand name. There is no change to the medication itself, repaglinide.

NovoNorm is prescribed to patients with Type 2 diabetes. It is rapid-acting and helps to lower the increase in glucose which occurs at mealtimes by helping the body produce more insulin. NovoNorm must therefore be taken before each main meal.

There is no difference between NovoNorm and PRANDIN. They are identical and manufactured in exactly the same way by the company NovoNordisk. The only differences are in the name and the product codes.

The name change has occurred because another company, Daiichi Sankyo UK Ltd, has bought the rights to market and sell the product from NovoNordisk in the UK.

Patients might still occasionally receive NovoNorm as this might still be stocked in pharmacies until all supplies have run out. However, in the future only PRANDIN will become available in the UK.

If you have any queries, please speak to your diabetes healthcare professional or call Medical Services at Daiichi Sankyo UK Ltd on 01753 893600.
