Westminster yesterday welcomed podiatrists to check the feet of 100 MPs and Peers.
The event, supported by Diabetes UK and led by the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCP), aimed to highlight the inequalities in access to foot care across the UK.
Podiatrists examined the parliamentarians' feet, analysed the way they walked and offered further treatment and help if necessary. The SCP want to raise awareness of the importance of regular foot checks - a particulary relevant message to people with diabetes, who can be at risk of poor circulation and nerve damage to the feet.
"It is vital that people with diabetes take care of their feet," said Amanda Eden, Care Advisor at Diabetes UK.
"We recommend that people with the condition have at least an annual foot check to ensure that any problems are detected early. They should visit their GP if they have any concerns in the meantime."
