Specsavers has raised £150,000 for Diabetes UK by making a donation for every sight test carried out during Diabetes Week in June and organising various fundraising initiatives across stores. The leading opticians also donated £1 for each entry received for the Specatacle Wearer of the Year competition.
Specsavers raised the money as part of its charity of the year commitment to us. Together, we want to raise awareness of sight-threatening retinopathy, a complication of diabetes, and help people living with the condition.
“I would like to thank Specsavers stores across the country for their fantastic efforts in raising funds for Diabetes UK,” said Douglas Smallwood, Chief Executive of Diabetes UK.
“The total amount raised mainly through donations from sight tests during Diabetes Week is outstanding. Every penny of this money will go towards helping people with diabetes.
“Specsavers employees are doing a fantastic job of raising awareness of diabetes and retinopathy. We look forward to continuing our extremely successful partnership with Specsavers which is helping to make a real difference to the lives of those affected by diabetes.”
Specsavers has planned lots of exciting events in aid of Diabetes UK, including the Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition. The glamorous contest is fronted by Kimberley Stewart (pictured), daughter of rock legend Rod. It will culminate in a fabulous awards ceremony, where the winner will receive prizes including a modelling contract.
