A £3 million call has been launched by the National Prevention Research Initiative (NPRI) for research into the prevention of many serious conditions including diabetes.
The aim of the NPRI is to encourage research that targets conditions that kill thousands of people every year in the UK. Supported by numerous funding bodies, including Diabetes UK, this is the NPRI’s second call for research where the primary aim will be to prevent diabetes, cancer, heart disease and stroke.
During the last NPRI funding round approximately £1.2 million was awarded to two projects with a specific diabetes focus. Several other projects funded in this call could have an impact on diabetes research as they focus on physical activity and obesity. Diabetes UK contributes £250,000 per year to the NPRI, so we get a very good return on our investment.
Following the success of the first call, the NPRI are now accepting outline applications. If you would like further details on the call or are a researcher who would like to make an application, please visit the NPRI website atwww.mrc.ac.uk/ApplyingforaGrant/CallsforProposals/NPRIPhase2.
