Spec-tacular star support for Diabetes UK

The stars came out in force yesterday for the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards, held at London’s Waldorf Hilton Hotel in aid of Diabetes UK.

Kimberley Stewart, Penny Lancaster, Calum Best, Colin Murray, Sheree Murphy and the Cheeky Girls were just some of the celebrities who helped to make the glamorous event a huge success.

Murray and Murphy were crowned the Celebrity Spectacle Wearers of the Year, and Glasgow’s Sara Pender, 18, won first prize in the main competition. Sara’s prizes include a year’s modelling contract with top London agency MOT and a two week all-inclusive holiday for two in Barbados or St Lucia courtesy of Almond Resorts and Virgin.

Specsavers kindly donated £1 for each entry received for the main Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition to Diabetes UK. In addition, a fabulous auction held at the awards ceremony raised over £5,000 to help people affected by diabetes and retinopathy.

Penny Mordaunt, Director of Strategy, Policy and Partnerships at Diabetes UK, said: “A fantastic time was had by all at last night's awards ceremony. Thank you so much to everyone that came along, particularly those who gave so generously at the auction. Every penny of the money raised will go towards helping people living with diabetic retinopathy.
