The charity, Database of Personal Experience of health and illness (DIPEx), is looking for people to share their stories of living with Type 2 diabetes with others in a similar situation.
The charity is in the process of creating a new section based on personal accounts and the different types of experiences people face.
Having an illness or being faced with a health decision can be a lonely experience. You can feel like you are the only one in your situation or you may not know where to turn to for information and support.
Hearing accounts of other people in similar situations to yours can be an immensely reassuring and empowering experience. It can help you to view a situation from different perspectives, and to learn from others who have faced challenges similar to yours.
DIPEx produces an award-winning website which provides 24 hours’ confidential practical and emotional support to people living with illness or facing health decisions.
The website carries interviews with people about their experiences of health and illness as video, audio and written clips. It also has reliable information about the illness, a FAQ section and links to other websites, support groups, books and videos that may also be of help.
If you decide to take part, a researcher will set up an appointment with you to carry out an interview. During the interview she will ask you to talk about your experiences, your thoughts and feelings and how your situation affects you.
The charity is particularly interested in interviewing people from Asian, Afro-Caribbean and Black British backgrounds as Type 2 diabetes is highly prevalent in these communities.
If you would like to take part or find out more, please firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 01865 289305 or 01865 289328.
