The picturesque setting of Lake Windermere played host to this year’s Great North Swim.
A total of 45 Diabetes UK fundraisers donned wetsuits, caps and goggles and joined 1,800 other swimmers, including some of recently-returned "Team GB" from the Beijing Olympics, to take part in the mile-long sprint.
Also taking the plunge was media doctor, Dr Hilary Jones, and Mark Blewitt, a channel swimmer with Type 1 diabetes, who completed the one-mile course in just 25 minutes.
Diabetes UK’s very own North West Fundraising Manger, Stephanie Lawless, and Northern and Yorkshire Regional Fundraising Manager, Jeff Breen, also successfully completed the course.
"I completed the event in just over an hour and was so glad to be able to take part and support our other swimmers. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event and many said they’d like to take part again next year." explained Stephanie.
"All sponsorship money raised by our team at this event will go to diabetes research. Thank you to everyone in the Diabetes UK team – a truly memorable day!"
