Have you made a New Year's resolution yet? Why not take on a Diabetes Challenge for us in 2010 using our newDiabetes Challenge website?
Diabetes Challenge is a fun and interactive site that enables anybody to challenge themselves or someone else to raise funds for Diabetes UK by taking on a given challenge.
Lose a turkey, walk, swim, anything goes!
Challenges can be anything from losing a turkey in weight to walking 25 miles by February or swimming 100 laps – anything goes!
TV presenter and Diabetes UK celebrity supporter Dominic Littlewood, who has had Type 1 diabetes for 33 years, is taking on his own Diabetes Challenge in 2010 with a Thailand Jungle Trek.
He said: "The expedition takes place in western Thailand's Kanchanaburi Province, location of the infamous Death Railway and Bridge over the River Kwai. The challenge will take me through the rugged jungles in remote parts of the province close to the border with Burma.
"I'll spend six days trekking, rafting, kayaking and riding elephants through the forests and mountains of the Thung Yai Nareusan Wildlife Sanctuary - all in the name of Diabetes UK!"
Share your Challenge on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr
Visitors to Diabetes Challenge can access progress updates on all live challenges, including Dominic’s. They can see who’s challenging who, what they’re doing, who’s donating and how much has been raised so far.
Users can also share information on their progress and pictures via their social media networks thanks to connections with Twitter and Flickr. Using Facebook Connect, they can post updates direct to Facebook, such as new challenges and donation notifications.
Already fundraising for Diabetes UK?
Use Diabetes Challenge and all donations are commission-free
Diabetes Challenge also provides a focal point for people taking part in marathons, fun runs, overseas challenges and other events on behalf of Diabetes UK. These fundraisers can direct donors to their profiles at Diabetes Challenge, where contributions are commission-free, compared to those charged by intermediary fundraising sites.
Help raise vital funds
Diabetes UK wants as many people as possible to follow in Dominic’s footsteps by getting involved with Diabetes Challenge and setting themselves New Year’s Challenges.
“There’s no better way to make sure you stick to your resolutions this year by turning them into public challenges and letting all your friends and family know,” said Amanda Neylon, Digital Media Manager at Diabetes UK.
“And by challenging yourself, you will help to raise vital funds for the three million people in the UK living with diabetes, while having loads of fun. Every penny really will count – because one of the best things about Diabetes Challenge is that all the money raised through the site comes straight to Diabetes UK.”
