Matt Littler, better known as Max from the hit soap ‘Hollyoaks’, will tackle the London to Paris Cycle Challenge to raise funds for Diabetes UK. Linking two of Europe's great capitals by covering 300km, the three-day challenge begins on Friday 9 September 2011.
Matt knows first-hand the impact diabetes can have, as his father and grandmother both have Type 2 diabetes.
Matt said, "My reasons for taking part in the London to Paris Cycle Challenge are very personal and important to me, and I’d like to raise as much money as I can to help support Diabetes UK and the brilliant work that they do. I feel like I’m at higher risk of developing diabetes given my family history, so I try to be as active as possible to keep diabetes at bay.
"I’ve got a few cycling challenges under my belt but this is the first time I have attempted to cycle to another country! I’ve been training pretty hard, though, and I’ll be thinking about my family and friends to help me get through the 200-mile journey."
Team Diabetes UK will face 75 miles on day one before catching the ferry from Dover to Calais. Day two will see the cyclists cover a further 75 miles through the Seine Valley before completing the final 50 miles on day three, when they will arrive in Paris for a well-deserved glass of champagne.
Hannah Mullervy, Diabetes UK Events Manager, said, "We are very grateful for Matt’s support and wish him the best of luck with his training. The funds he raises will go a long way in helping us continue to support people diagnosed with diabetes and fund research into finding a cure."
