Diabetes UK’s Measure Up Roadshow went to Ilford recently for a special feature on Type 2 diabetes, to be shown on BBC Inside Out London at 7.30pm tonight.
BBC Inside Out presenter, Jo Good, teamed up with the Roadshow to find people in the area who could be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Jo was shocked to find that one in seven people who visited the Roadshow on the day were at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in the future.
About Measure Up
The Diabetes UK Measure Up campaign encourages people to measure their waist to see if they are at risk of Type 2 diabetes, as having a large waist means you are up to 12 times more likely to develop the condition.
The campaign also raises awareness of other risk factors for Type 2 diabetes, including being over 40 years old, being of Black or South Asian origin and having a family history of the condition.
The Measure Up Roadshow has been made possible through a donation of £1 million from the HBOS Foundation following the outstanding fundraising achievements of Bank of Scotland and Halifax employees and customers in 2008.
