Being diagnosed and living with diabetes can be overwhelming. Supporting people on their journey is one of the key areas of our work and we need your help.
OurCarelineis a dedicated helpline, staffed by professional counsellors who have extensive knowledge of diabetes. They handled almost 15,000 calls last year offering support, guidance and vital information to those whose lives have been affected by Diabetes.
OurCare Eventsprovide people living with diabetes unique opportunities to share and learn from each other, all with the support of trained volunteers, doctors, nurses and dieticians. This year we are running 32 events around the UK, supporting children, young adults and families affected by diabetes.
Your donation could help us provide vital support through Careline or help us run even more Care Event weekends for children learning to cope with their Type 1 diabetes.
How Careline helped Paul
"Having been recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I was finding the whole blood glucose level thing very confusing. I phoned the Careline and spoke to a fantastic lady who explained very simply what I was doing right and what was wrong and, at last, I understand more fully how diet is important; as is when to eat and when not to exercise. The Careline is brilliant and the people so knowledgeable and helpful."

How our Care Events helped Michelle and Danny Hirdle's son
"My husband and I would like to thank-you for looking after all of our children.
Our son, who has Type 1 came home doing his injections in front of his cousins, previously he would hide away. I think he came home realising that he isn't alone and he doesn't have to keep it a secret.
This is the first time that we have been able to talk about our worries with other parents dealing with the same problems, it was a real eye opener, we have both learnt so much and enjoyed having time to relax. Diabetes can take over sometimes and we as a family definitely needed a weekend away with great people that were happy to care for our children.
Chatting to the other children that have grown up with diabetes has made us realise that even if you have diabetes you can do anything, you just have to be more prepared.
A big thank you! From the Hirdle family. We all benefitted. Thank you!"
