Our application takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Before you start please review the below as it will help us to process your application as quickly as possible.
Requesting references
Diabetes UK complies with current safeguarding legislation and is committed to applying best practice for the care of volunteer staff, children and young people on all events. Therefore, it is essential that you have two referees complete this. Please provide their details when prompted in the application form.
All references must be received at least six weeks prior to your first event or we will be unable to accept you as a volunteer. If you have any questions please contact eventsteam@diabetes.org.uk
Suitable referees
One reference should be from your present or most recent employer (or the organisation where you have been volunteering). If you have no previous employment or volunteering history, the reference should be from your most recent school, college or other educational establishment. If possible, at least one reference should be from an organisation with direct experience of your work with children and families.
We cannot accept references from a member of your family, or from other Events Team staff or volunteers as these existing relationships may mean they are less likely to be objective.
Please note, failure to complete the reference section will result in your application not being considered.
Help for new volunteers
We know there are lots of opportunities to volunteer out there, so have a chat with us to find out what volunteering for Diabetes UK is all about. We ask all of our new volunteers to come to an information session before they can volunteer on an event. It’s your chance to ask any questions you have, talk to existing volunteers and to try your hand at some typical Type 1 Event scenarios.
During the application you will be asked to indicate the days and locations which work best for you. Once we have received this information we will be able to coordinate information sessions which are convenient and local to you.
Safeguarding
Before Diabetes UK can confirm you on any event, you'll need to complete anonline safeguarding training course.
