Paul, 40, is a self-employed plumber who lives with type 1 diabetes as does his father and son, Archie, who is 6 years old. The Sycamores also have two other children, Sienna and Ruby. He said:

Paul Sycamore from Little Thetford, Cambridgeshire has raised almost £3000 for us by taking on the gruelling ultra-marathon Weaver’s Way from Stalham to Cromer in Norfolk.

Emma said: “The cake sale was a huge success and we are extremely grateful for all the support received. Since Archie has been diagnosed, we have a team of supporters known as Team Archie. They are friends and family that help keep us going on the tough days.

Emma Weston, her Husband Paul Weston and their family from Hertfordshire organized a bake sale event in Broxbourne to raise an impressive amount for Diabetes UK in March. Her son, Archie, 2 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 1 year old.

The Living with Diabetes Workshop is a morning virtual session running from 9.30am to 11.45. It will offer key information to support people to manage their condition well.

Diabetes UK and the West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and community diabetes service are hosting a free online event for people living with diabetes in the west of the county on Thursday 9 September.

They were chosen for the Diabetes UK Good Diabetes Care in School Award 2020 because of the support they provide to students with the condition, the help they offer to manage their diabetes safely, and the care taken to include them in all school activities. 

Six schools across the East of England have won an award for providing great care to children and young people with type 1 diabetes.

Team Hoop Freakz (pictured) is made up of nine-year-old Lil Joshua and 12-year-olds Manvir and Zandro. Manvir lives with type 1 diabetes and along with his teammates, is aiming to compete in the Ball Out 3x3 National Tour – the UK’s biggest 3x3 basketball tournament.

Three boys from Thurrock in Essex are taking on a basketball battle to fundraise for Diabetes UK and shine a light on the condition.

A woman who has lived with type 1 diabetes for 50 years is going to mark the milestone anniversary by challenging herself with an abseil into a Lake District slate quarry.

In the region, the area with the highest prevalence was Luton where 8.4 per cent of people were diagnosed with diabetes, followed by Norfolk and Waveney CCG and West Suffolk CCG  (both 7.6 per cent). The lowest in the East of England was Herts Valley CCG with 6 per cent while the national average was 7.1 per cent.

New analysis released today by Diabetes UK shows that the number of people diagnosed with diabetes in the East of England has increased from 352,356 to 365,424 since last year.

Father-of-two Spencer Hoadly, 43, decided to take on the challenge of two ultra marathons as a way of thanking us for our support and motivating himself and others to keep fit and active.


Spencer (pictured after completing the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon) lives in Kings Langley and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 14.

A stone mason who lives with type 1 diabetes is running two ultra marathons, back to back, to raise awareness about our work and inspire people living with diabetes.

Dr Jason Cheung (pictured), clinical lead for the inpatient diabetes service at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, was chosen for his passion, and commitment to excellence in diabetes care.

A consultant in diabetes and endocrinology from Norfolk has been selected as a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion, to help transform care for people living with diabetes in the East of England.
