Burton Diabetes UK Group - 'Feet First' event

Burton Diabetes UK support group raise awareness on footcare for people with diabetes.

This event was hosted by the Diabetes UK’s Burton voluntary group and Burton Albion Community Trust at the Pirelli Stadium in September.

Prof Fran Game, consultant diabetologist at Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, opened the event, discussed diabetes care in the area and answered questions.

There were demonstrations focusing on how people can check their feet properly, carried out by podiatrists and a diabetes practice nurse. A woman living with diabetes also shared her personal experiences of the condition, going back to her diagnosis. The event was closed by Richard Lane 0BE, former Diabetes UK president and now the charity’s first Ambassador.

The objective of this event was to enforce the campaign that Diabetes UK have to raise awareness on foot care and how important proper foot examinations are.

There was an incredible turnout of both exhibitors and the public. Comments included:

“Excellent event”, “Great atmosphere”, “Good mixture of talks, demonstrations, exhibitors, refreshments.”
