Diabetes UK Northern Ireland welcomes new National Director

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland has appointed Jillian Patchett to the role of National Director, to lead the Northern Ireland team.

Jillian will be based in the charity’s office in Belfast, Northern Ireland, continuing with the important work involved in the Diabetes Network as the Diabetes Strategic Framework is implemented, with the aim of helping over 100,000 people who are living with diabetes in Northern Ireland.

Jillian joins Diabetes UK Northern Ireland from RNIB, where she had been responsible for all services delivered in NI before moving on to a UK-wide remit, leading major change to service delivery across the organisation.

Prior to joining RNIB, Jillian was asked by the Department of Health in Northern Ireland to establish a Service Improvement Unit where she worked with more than 120 teams across health and social care again delivering transformational change in how services were delivered.

Diabetes UK chief executive Chris Askew said: “Jillian will be a great addition to our Diabetes UK team. We need the best people to work with us to help tackle the growing crisis in diabetes. As a charity our ambition is to have a world where diabetes can do no harm, and in Northern Ireland our work aims to make the lives of people living with this serious condition better.”

Speaking about taking up the post, Jillian said: “I am delighted to join Diabetes UK and lead the team in Northern Ireland. More and more of us are being affected by diabetes, and this charity is passionate about helping people and improving services. I believe my experience in this sector will complement the hard work of our committed staff and volunteers across Northern Ireland.”

Jillian replaces Dr David Chaney who has been promoted within Diabetes UK to UK Assistant Director for Local Impact.
