With expert guest speakers, members of the local support group and representatives from Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, the evening was designed to provide information and support about diabetes and how to live well with it.

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland Volunteer Development Manager, Arlene Creighton, said, ‘We were delighted to have Consultant Dr Paul McMullan and Queen’s University Lecturer, Dr Emma Berry as our guest speakers on the night. They provided insight into both the clinical and emotional aspects of diabetes as well as practical advice for anyone living with diabetes.

‘The big turnout shows that there is a need to learn more about diabetes and with a growing diabetes community in Northern Ireland we hope that our local support groups will help in bridging the gap by providing further information and support.’

There are currently over 100,000 people living with diabetes in Northern Ireland and this number continues to grow. If you would like to know more about your local support group then contact newryandmournediabetes@outlook.com or call Diabetes UK Northern Ireland on 028 9066 6646.
