Local band ‘US 2’ raise money for diabetes

Local band, ‘US 2’, recently held their farewell gig in the Rising Sun Bar in Greysteel to a sell-out crowd of 300 people. Kevin Martin and Pearse McKeever of ‘US 2’ decided to choose two local charities and raised a fantastic £1,610 each for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Presenting the cheques, Kevin said, ‘We chose these two charities because their causes are close to our hearts and we wanted to do something special for our last gig together. ‘US 2’ has enjoyed many years of performing and to end our journey to a sell-out crowd and then help two great charities really was the best way to go out.

‘We would like to thank everyone who came along on the night, to show not just their support to us but also our chosen charities. We would also like to thank the Rising Sun owners, James and Katrina for their kind donation of £500 on the night. Our families have been affected by these two conditions and hopefully these donations will help.’

The duo are splitting ways as Pearse’s work will take him to Dublin and Kevin hopes to continue with his music as a solo artist.

Diabetes UK Northern Ireland National Fundraiser, Naomi Breen, said, ‘Although it must have been a very sad night for Kevin and Pearse as their last gig as US 2, it was hugely successful and we would like to thank them for choosing to support us.

"£1,610 is a fantastic amount of money to raise and will go towards helping us provide support and information for the growing diabetes family in Northern Ireland. Thank you to everyone who donated so kindly on the night and we hope we have helped raise awareness about the seriousness of this lifelong and life changing condition."
