Inspirational Omagh volunteer wins our fundraising award

A dedicated volunteer from Omagh has won our Inspire award for her fundraising efforts.

Lorraine Reid was presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Titanic Belfast on Saturday 2 June and sponsored by one of NI’s leading electricity suppliers, Click Energy.

Over the past year, Lorraine has raised money to help fund ground-breaking research and campaigns that can change the lives of those living with diabetes. She has also tirelessly raised awareness of the condition.

Collecting the award, Lorraine said, “This last year has been quite a learning curve for our family with my daughter being newly diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes but we threw ourselves into it and became completely focused on helping others living with this condition. I have so enjoyed taking on new roles for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland and I am delighted to receive this award. Thank you to everyone, especially in the Omagh area, who has supported us.”

Jillian Patchett, our National Director said: “Lorraine has worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds to help others living with diabetes. There have been craft fairs, pre-loved sales and bag packs to name but a few of the activities Lorraine has been involved in, all helping to get people talking about diabetes and helping to raise funds for the charity.

“I would like to thank Lorraine for all that she continues to do and I would like to extend that thanks to all of our fantastic fundraisers – we could not do what we do without your help, dedication and support. Thank you to everyone who was nominated and to those who continue to support people living with diabetes below the radar.”

Click Energy Managing Director, Damian Wilson, added: “The staff at Click Energy selected Diabetes UK Northern Ireland as the charity of the year for our organisation and we are thrilled to have been able to work together on this event as part of our charity partnership.

“The Inspire Awards provide a great platform for recognising and rewarding the contributions of the many volunteers who are doing great work to support those living with diabetes and to raise awareness surrounding the condition in Northern Ireland.”

Each winner received an Inspire Award from us and a gift from Click Energy including £250 vouchers for Hastings Hotels and £250 vouchers for Currys/PC World.
