Diabetes and insulin: the essentials
We have worked collaboratively with healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes in Leeds to develop a new resource for people using insulin to manage their diabetes.
Whether you are new to insulin or have been using it for a while, ‘Diabetes and insulin: the essentials,’ sets out the care and support everyone using insulin to manage their diabetes should expect. As well as providing vital information for people living with diabetes, this new resource can also support healthcare professionals, to help improve the consistency and quality of care everyone using insulin receives.
The resource is available as both a digital resource (PDF, 4.4MB) that can be sent by email and accessed remotely and a printed format booklet (PDF, 4.6MB) that can be printed and given to people during appointments.

The Insulin Essentials project was created in response to feedback received from people living with diabetes in the North of England, who use insulin to manage their condition, and healthcare professionals, who were highlighting the need for more consistent care.
It has been driven with the help and support of the NHS Leeds Diabetes Partnership, particularly Dr Ian McDermott and Clair Ranns, who are eager to ensure that the right support, information and education is available to people using insulin therapy to manage their diabetes.
The resource will now be integrated into the Leeds Diabetes Pathway, as well as made available more widely through Diabetes UK.
