Diabetes Scotland honoured its amazing volunteers at the annual Inspire Awards ceremony in Glasgow recently.  

Winners came from all over Scotland and included a marathon runner, local group organisers, young person's event coordinator, campaigners, and outstanding young volunteers. They partied the night away at the glitzy ceremony along with over 120 fellow volunteers and Diabetes Scotland staff.

A ‘life-changing’ technology which can support people with diabetes to better manage their condition is unavailable to thousands across Scotland.

Following approval of Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring (Flash GM) on NHS drug tariff in November 2017, only six of the 14 Health Boards across Scotland are currently making the technology available to people living with diabetes.

Joanne Miller, Diabetes Scotland Young Leader and sixth year pupil at Kirkwall Grammar, is to lead a diabetes awareness week at her school.

Joanne (17), who has Type 1 diabetes, will be joined by a team of three other Young Leaders and two representatives from Diabetes Scotland to deliver a series of presentations and tutorials, from Tuesday 20 – Friday 23 February 2018, designed to give pupils of all ages a better understanding of the condition.
