A boy from Hove has raised a fantastic £1,085.18 from his annual fundraising event over Christmas.

TheWinterCity© is an annual Christmas event Xavier holds every Christmas. It’s a Christmas model village scene with houses and a train circuit. This was passed down from his Grandfather who used to do a smaller version on his mantelpiece, until he passed away in 2010.

Folkestone Dad and former local chef, Ken South, got a shock wake-up call last year when he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. 

In March last year, 50-year old Ken was advised by a Diabetes Specialist Nurse at his local clinic that he risked serious complications unless he lost a significant amount of weight. He was 18 stone.

A 17-year-old Olympic Skeet shooter from Surrey is aiming for Olympic glory after a year of career highs including competing for Team GB in the World Championships.

Ranked 12th lady and 3rd junior lady in the UK this year, a rising star in British shooting, Maddy, pictured, has had Type 1 diabetes from the age of 3.

Professional sailor Adam Pereira has arrived home in Cowes after becoming the first person with Type 1 diabetes to complete a transatlantic crossing on his own. 

After 11 long weeks at sea and battling strong winds, and sometimes, no wind at all, Adam sailed the distance of 7,000 nautical miles to the Statue of Liberty and back. He dropped anchor off Liberty Island on Saturday 5 August at 7.29 in the morning, and the Royal London Yacht Club sounded the horn with three honks on Monday 4 September at 2:05pm to celebrate his arrival back in Cowes.

Diabetes UK’s 1 Million Step Challenge takes place between 1 July and 30 September, and invites people to push themselves out of their comfort zone, by taking 1 million steps over three months and getting sponsored for every stride.

A Bexhill couple who have raised over £5,000 for Diabetes UK have won a fundraising volunteering award from leading charity Diabetes UK. 

Local poet and author, Claire Baldry and her husband Chris won the Fundraising Diabetes UK award in recognition of their hard work, at the charity’s regional Inspire Awards.
