South East Volunteer Conference - 2018

The South East team would like to say a big thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who attended the volunteer conference in Crawley on 21 April. The day was a huge success with volunteers from across the South East region attending.

Jill Steaton, SE Regional Head got the conference started with highlights from the region over the last year before handing over to Chris Askew, CEO (pictured) who then spoke about the future of diabetes. After a break for networking delegates heard from the research team when Anna Morris gave a Diabetes UK research update and Dr Natasha Hill, Associate Professor from Kingston University, spoke about how to turn stem cells into insulin producing beta cells.

Our popular workshops stimulated lively debate in the afternoon with a variety of topics covered. These included campaign for change, involving diverse communities, your stories and a social media workshop.

An informative, sociable and stimulating day was had by all and it was wonderful to meet all of our volunteers. We look forward to seeing you all again at another one of our networking days or at our next volunteer conference.
