This year the South West Regional Team are getting our goggles at the ready to take part in Swim22. There are five of us in the Diabetes UK Swimmers team (from left, pictured above): Paula Wilson, Gemma Jackson, Annika Palmer, Phaedra Perry and Susannah Hickling. We were aiming to raise £650 by swimming the equivalent distance of the English Channel between 22 February and 22 May.
It seemed like an excellent idea at the time, little did we realise how far away France would feel in practice. But with a bit of time and a whole lot of dedication we have got along swimmingly! It’s only 5 May and we have swum a total of 76 miles and raised £859.25 as a team. You can read more about our swimming experience blogs from Gemma Jackson and Susannah Hickling. We hope we'll inspire others to get swimming for Swim22.
