Here are some of the important healthcare policy developments that affect diabetes services in Wales and highlight the changes that are underway over the next few years.
Together for Health
A Five Year Vision for the NHS in Wales
Together for Health is the Welsh Government’s national strategy for diabetes services in Wales and each health board in Wales has its own version of the national strategy.
The strategy explains what services and support people with diabetes should receive and how NHS Wales measures the quality of the services we all rely on.
Diabetes Delivery Plan Annual Report 2014
This is the first of the all-Wales annual reports on NHS diabetes care, as required by the delivery plan. It provides a national overview, complementing the individual reports that have already been produced by health boards.
Wales Paediatric Diabetes Peer Review 2014
This report summarises the findings of the first national round of external peer review visits to Children and Young People Diabetes Services (CYPD) in Wales during 2014.
Health & Social Care Committee Inquiry into Diabetes Services
In June 2013, the Welsh Government, healthcare professionals, people with diabetes and charities like Diabetes UK gave evidence to a panel of twelve Assembly Members on the state of diabetes services in Wales. After considering the evidence, the panel produced thirteen recommendations for the Welsh Government and health boards across Wales to improve diabetes services in the future. Diabetes UK Cymru is now working to make sure these recommendations are put into practice.
