Newport diabetes specialists celebrate 70 years of the NHS in style

A charity ball and auction to celebrate 70 years of the NHS is taking place at Rogerstone and Bassaleg Social Club on Friday 9 November.

Podiatrist Helen Newton is teaming up with her colleagues at the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to organise the event in support of Diabetes UK Cymru and the Richmond House Diabetes Centre fund.

Family-friendly and fun

The family-friendly event will feature local big band Swingcopation, a buffet, a raffle, and an auction with exciting prizes including tickets for the Newport County Directors box, golf merchandise signed by The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh and DW fitness passes.

Helen Newton said: “We want to remind people of how long the NHS has existed and of the services it delivers to people across Wales. It is especially important for people living with diabetes who rely on the NHS every day.

A team effort

Consultant endocrinologist Kofi Obuobie, senior nurse and Diabetes UK Clinical Champion Sian Bodman, diabetes nurse Sian Williams and award-winning Diabetes UK Cymru volunteer Sarah Gibbs are also helping organise the event.

Helen continued: “We are supporting Diabetes UK Cymru because of the amazing work they do to raise awareness of diabetes and support people are who living with the condition. We hope that lots of people come along to enjoy the music, bid for their favourite prizes and support a worthy cause. It’s going to be a fantastic evening of fun and entertainment and everyone is welcome.”
