Find out your risk of Type 2 diabetes at the Assembly

As part of Diabetes Week 2018 we’re holding a special Know Your Risk event at the National Assembly for Wales.

The free event is at Ty Hywel in Cardiff Bay on Wednesday, 13 June from 12.30pm to 2pm.

Come along to speak to our volunteers, who will help you understand your risk of Type 2 diabetes through a series of simple assessments.

You’ll also meet Assembly Members and listen to a talk from record-breaking fundraisers, Team Oarstruck, who rowed across the Atlantic for us earlier this year.

Of the 191,000 people living with diabetes in Wales, 90% are estimated to have Type 2 diabetes. A further 59,000 people have Type 2, but are yet to be diagnosed.

Certain factors can increase your likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes, including age, weight, and ethnic background. However, as many as three in five cases can be prevented through eating well, staying active and maintaining a healthy weight.

Newport West AM Jayne Bryant is supporting the event. Jayne Bryant said, “If current trends continue, as many as 300,000 people in Wales could have diabetes by 2025. This free event offers an opportunity to take your health into your own hands and safeguard it for the future, by identifying and reducing your risk.”

If you know your risk of Type 2 diabetes, you can do something about it! We hope lots of people take this opportunity this Diabetes Week.
